What is a DNS record? A DNS record is your way of telling the internet where to find your website. If a user types in your website name, the internet uses DNS records to help find the correct place to take your user. There are different types of DNS records for different purposes.

Here are some common types of DNS records:

A record - A record points a domain or subdomain to an IP address. An IP address has four digits separated by periods and looks something like 12.34.56.78. A records can be used for both IPv4 addresses (like 12.34.56.78) and IPv6 addresses (like 2002:c000:200a).

TXT Record - The TXT record stores text notes about a domain or subdomain; it can be used for multiple purposes, such as adding notes about a domain or subdomain or verifying ownership of a domain or subdomain.
